Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's 2.0, which is doing good business in India and many overseas centres, will release big in China. Lyca Productions is collaborating with HY Media for the Chinese release.
2.0 will have the widest-ever release of an Indian film in China. "Dubbed and subtitled versions of 2.0 is slated to release in China in 10,000 theatres with 56,000 screens (including 47,000 3D screens) on May 2 [2019]. This would be the widest 3D release for any foreign film in history," the production house said in a press release.
China has turned out to be a lucrative market for Indian movies in recent years. Films of Aamir Khan have consistently done well there. Dangal is the highest-grossing Indian movie in China where it minted well over Rs 1100 crore.
Secret Superstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Hindi Medium are some films which struck a chord with the Chinese audience.
Chinese policy
To encourage local content, the Chinese government has restricted the release of foreign movies to 34 films per year, of which almost 90 percent are Hollywood films.
2.0 Box Office
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth's 2.0 has grossed over Rs 400 crore at the worldwide box office. The film was released on 29 November and has done decent business.
