Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's forthcoming movie 2.0 is likely to be delayed further. The release date was earlier postponed from January to April, which drew the ire of some big Tollywood producers. Now, to avoid a clash with some big-budget Telugu films, the makers have reportedly pushed the film by one more month.
If the latest buzz is to be believed, 2.0 will be out on May 25. Although the makers have not announced their plans yet, Tollywood websites have reported that Lyca Productions has decided to release the film on the aforementioned date.
With the schools having summer vacation, the time seems to be perfect for a big release like 2.0, say trade trackers. The Shankar-directorial is not just for mass, but for the family audience too. Also, the content of robots is expected to draw the attention of kids. Considering these factors, the makers are believed to have made their mind of the said date as the footfalls in theatres will be high during holiday season.
Moreover, the pressure from Tollywood made Lyca Productions to change their plans, say rumour mills.
2.0 was supposed to be released on January 26, but the delay in the completion of post-production works forced them to reschedule it for April 27. This had left a few Telugu producers angry.
After the new release date of 2.0 was announced, DVV Entertainments, which is producing Mahesh Babu's Bharath Ane Nenu, had come out with a statement on Twitter.
In a series of tweets, the official Twitter handle of the banner posted:
Tollywood has always respected and embraced other language cinema. But a bigger project like Robo 2.0 changing their release dates has caused confusion among producers. (1/3)
All the Telugu movie producers who are releasing in the months of Apr and May are in discussions to avoid any competition among ourselves. However this sudden announcement by ROBO 2 team to release in the month of April has left all the Telugu releases to further confusion. (2/3)
At this juncture we request the trade bodies to take a conscious call and arrive at an amicable solution. #Mahesh24 #2Point0 (3/3).
Another producer, Bunny Vasu, who is co-producing Allu Arjun's Naa Peru Surya, had also expressed his anguish over the development.
