Rumours and speculations about the Tamil remake of megastar Mammootty's blockbuster Malayalam movie "Bhaskar the Rascal" have been making headlines since May 2015.
Rumours had it that superstar Rajinikanth would reprise Mammootty's role in the remake, which will also be directed by Siddique. Even Thala Ajith was said to have been approched for the film. The director has now revealed about the star cast of the upcoming film, and confirmed to a leading daily that Rajinikanth will play the lead in the movie, which has not been titled yet.
Rajinikanth's PRO says 'Kabali' actor not part of Mammootty's 'Bhaskar the Rascal' Tamil remake
Siddique has revealed this information at a time when reports also say Rajinikanth might do the Tamil remake of Shivaraj Kumar-starrer "Shivalinga."
"It's not Ajith but Rajinikanth who will do the lead role in the remake of "Bhaskar the Rascal." Rajini was impressed after watching the Mammootty-starrer. Even the producer is ready and an advance amount has also been paid. Now we need to begin the shooting around next year. For that, we need to get Rajini's dates. He just wrapped up the shooting of the Tamil movie "Kabali", and has to complete the filming of Shankar's "Enthiran 2.0" as well. Only after that will we get his date, and I hope the film will go on floors by next year," Siddique told Manorama Online.
The upcoming untitled flick will be one of the most awaited projects in Tamil as it stars Rajinikanth, and its original version, starring Mammootty and Nayantara, had done good business at the Kerala box office. The movie even completed 100 days of theatrical run in Kerala. Whether Nayantara, a leading actress in Kollywood, is part of the remake as well is under wraps until the makers officially announce the full cast and crew of the flick.
