Ekta Kapoor's much-ambitious project Chandra Nandini has been creating tremendous buzz ever since Rajat Tokas of Jodha Akbar fame was signed up to play the lead role.
While the first promo had raised the curiosity levels among viewers, the second promo featuring Rajat was released recently. In the video, the actor looks impressive as warrior Chandragupta Maurya and flaunts his toned physique and bulging biceps. Chandra Nandini will mark the return of Rajat to the small screen as a lead actor after he won hearts as Akbar in Jodha Akbar.
Shweta Basu Prasad of Makdee fame will be seen as the female lead opposite Rajat. Shweta will play the role of Chandragupta's wife Nandini. The fresh pair — Rajat and Shweta — will surely be interesting to watch, since both are talented actors with a huge fan following.
Besides Rajat and Shweta, the historical drama also features Arpit Ranka as the main antagonist, Raja Padmanabhan, the King of Kalinga. Arpit, who is popular for his on-screen character Duryodhan in Mahabharat, was last seen along with his wife in the reality show, Nach Baliye 7. Papiya Sengupta is also said to have been brought on board to play Moora, Chandragupta's mother.
Chandra Nandini is slated to go on air on Star Plus in October. The show will probably replace the mythological show, Siya Ke Ram.
