In an unexpected turn of events, a farmer from Rajasthan on Wednesday afternoon hanged himself from a tree at the AAP kisan rally. The rally was organised to protest against the Land Bill in New Delhi's Jantar Mantar area.
People had just gathered for the rally when they spotted the man climb the tree and hang himself. Without wasting time, Aam Aadmi Party activists climbed the tree and brought him down. The man, identified as Gajender Singh from Dausa in Rajasthan, was unconscious and barely breathing when he was brought down, IANS reported.
The police immediately rushed him to a hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead, according to TV reports.
While pulling him down, the men found a suicide note in which the farmer had written that he was left with nothing in life as all his crops were destroyed in the unseasonal rains. Singh had ended the note with "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Rajasthan".
AAP had organised the farmers' rally near Jantar Mantar to protest against the amendment in the Land Bill by the NDA government.
