Sharwanand's Radha has received a decent opening and made better collection than another new release Rahul Tyson's Venkatapuram at the worldwide box office in the first weekend.
Radha was bigger than Venkatapuram in terms of pre-release hype, promotions and screen count. Trade experts predicted that its collection will be more than other new releases. But they were sceptic about whether it would be really big at the box office, as it clashed with monstrous film Baahubali 2, which has held very strong in the theatres across the globe even in its third week.
With an impressive advance booking, the Sharwanand-starrer opened to decent response at the ticket counters around the world on May 12. Radha collected Rs. 3.45 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the first day. However, the movie failed to beat the record of Shatamanam Bhavati, which is the biggest opener for Sharwa with its first day collection of Rs. 6.5 crore gross.
Despite getting mixed response, The Chandra Mohan-directed romance drama maintained rock-steady at the ticket counters over the weekend. The Telugu movie has collected approximately more than Rs. 10 crore gross at the worldwide box office in the first weekend. The movie is estimated to have earned Rs. 7 crore for its distributors in three days. Stay tuned to see area-wise collection of Radha.
On other hand, Rahul Tyson's comeback movie was also released in a limited number of cinema halls (over 200 screens) on May 12. Venkatapuram received a good response from the audience on Friday. The word of mouth boosted its collection at the ticket counters around the world on Saturday and Sunday.
Venkatapuram has collected Rs. 97 lakh gross at the worldwide box office in the first weekend and earned Rs. 70+ lakh to its distributors in three days. Haricharan Pudipeddi, an observer of the southern film industry, tweeted: "#Venkatapuram managed to gross around 97 lakh from first three days WW. Big numbers for a small film. Going steady at the box-office."
