Vikram Bhatt's directorial movie "Raaz 3" starring Emraan Hashmi and Bipasha Basu had a good opening at the Box Office on Friday, making it one of the biggest openers of the year with a collection of over Rs.100 million.
Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt's third installment of Raaz series opened to mixed reviews but racked in Rs 100.47 million (Rs 10.47 cr.) from around 2250 screens in India on the opening day, making it Bhatt's biggest opener ever.
The movie earned Rs 5.8 million in paid previews on Thursday evening itself from limited screens, taking the total to Rs 101.05 millions (Rs 11.05 cr.) nett.
"#Raaz3 *India* Thu previews 58 lacs, Fri 10.47 cr. Total: 11.05 cr nett. Extra-ordinary. Bhatts, Emraan & @bipsluvurself 's biggest opener!" Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The movie did better at single screens than in multiplexes. It registered around 80 percent occupancy in single screens and 60 percent occupancy in multiplexes, according to Koimoi.com.
"Circuits where the movies did pretty well ranged from Rajasthan, Bihar, CPCI and Nizam. On the other hand Metros like Delhi & Mumbai showed considerably poor footfall," Koimoi.com reported.
Bhatt's earlier movies "Raaz" released in 2002 and "Raaz - The Mystery Continues" released in 2009 were hits at the box office. The success of the first two films created lot of curiosity on the third installment.
Looking at the first day collection, the movie is expected to collect around 330 - 360 million in opening weekends.
"#Murder2 *1st Week* 36.5 cr... #Jannat2 *1st Week* 35.55 cr... #Raaz3expected to collect 33 cr - 36 cr in just *opening weekend*. Bravo!" Adarsh tweeted.
The film features Emran, who worked in 2009 movie "Raaz - The Mystery Continues", Esha Gupta and Bipasha Basu.
