In a shocking incident during a live debate show on Sunday, a woman guest slapped a self-styled godman for bringing up her personal matters on national television.
Self-styled godman Om Ji of the Hindu Mahasabha and woman astrologer Rakhi Bai were having a heated discussion about controversial self-styled godwoman Radhe Ma, who is facing charges of alleged domestic violence.
Om Ji, who was speaking in support of Radhe Ma, hit out at the third guest on panel by bringing up her family matters on the show 'Aaj Ka Mudda' on IBN 7, while debating with Rakhi Bai, PTI reported.
"How can you criticise Radhe Ma, you correct yourself first," Om Ji said. He later added that he was talking about Deepa Sharma, who was said to be a 'Dharma Guru' (religious teacher).
The show took a violent turn when Om Ji brought up matters from her personal life, including a case that Sharma is allegedly fighting against her father-in-law. Enraged by the tirade about her family matters, Sharma got up from her seat, approached Om Ji and slapped him after warning him to behave himself.
"Tameez se baat kariye (behave yourself)," she told Om Ji, who also slapped her and said, "Tu kya maregi mujhe?". They were then seen grappling with each other, while Rakhi Bai asked Om Ji to stop the violence.
The channel has condemned the incident and said: "We invite responsible people to our shows and expect our guests to behave responsibly. We don't expect such behaviour from them and condemn it".
General secretary of Broadcast Editors Association NK Singh also criticised the incident.
"The purpose of such shows is to give information from both sides and let viewers make a decision. This is shameful," PTI quoted him as saying.
