Salman Khan's new movie "Bodyguard" sets new records of "highest ever for a film on a single day", reports DNA.
On the first day of its release on Wednesday, Bodyguard has hit the box office jackpot at a gross amount of Rs. 20 crore beyond the estimated 16-18 crore.
But according to market analysts, the first day net collections should be around Rs 20.25 crore.
"This is not just a record for the biggest opening-day gross, but also the biggest gross for a single day ever." says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Salman's last two films, "Wanted" and "Dabang," were released around Eid in 2009 and 2010 respectively and had struck the box office in a similar way.
This time Salman broke his previous record of Rs 18 crore collection on the opening day of "Dabang."
Meanwhile, Salman Khan wheeled into the operation theatre of a hospital in Los Angeles Wednesday night to undergo surgery, reports Times of India.
The "Wanted" hero had been suffering from acute pain in his jaw for the past three months.
According to the a source, the operation involves using a coil to remove some blockages inside his mouth. The procedure is similar to a heart surgery. The operation usually lasts for close to five hours.
This is the first time the actor has to miss his consecutive box office hit Eid day release.
The 46-year-old Bollywood actor Salman Khan starred in more than 80 Hindi films. He made his acting debut in the drama "Biwi Ho To Aisi" (1988) with a minor role and had his commercial hit with the blockbuster "Maine Pyar Kiya" (1989).
