PV Sindhu has been in great form in the badminton circuit of late, winning the China Open and finishing runners-up in the Hong Kong Open in a span of two weeks. Such incredible performances from the Indian shuttler helped her book a spot in the World Super Series Finals, which will take shape next month in Dubai. Sindhu, as a result, has decided to skip the Macau Open, where she was originally seeded second, to take some rest before the mega event in December.
With Sindhu skipping the competition, the onus will be on Saina Nehwal in the women's singles competition for India. Saina is the top seed for the Macau Open 2016 and this will be the third competition that she is featuring in after her knee surgery. If she manages to win the title, it will do wonders to the former world number one's confidence.
All hopes of the Saina-Sindhu final in the Macau Open have been thrown out of the window after this decision of the China Open 2016 winner.
"I wanted to take some rest after two back-to-back events in China and Hong Kong. So, I had to withdraw from the Macau Open and focus on the World Super Series Finals in December," India Today quoted Sindhu as saying.
Just a fortnight remains for the World Super Series Final, which will take shape from December 14. The competition is the toughest in the calendar year, with only the top ranked players featuring in it.
After her stunning silver medal win in the Rio Olympics, with her recent performances she has shown that she belongs to the league of top-class players. She defeated some higher-ranked players in Rio to clinch the medal, and Sindhu has to show similar form to win the title in December. However, this is going to be a huge task as the competition includes stars like Carolina Marin and Tai Tzu Yiung to name a few.
