PV Sindhu, the Rio 2016 Olympics silver medallist in women's badminton, takes on He Bingjiao in the second round of the 2016 French Open badminton super series on Thursday. The Indian star comes into the match after a gruelling straight sets 21-9 29-27 win against Hong Kong's Yip Pui Yin in her opening match of the BWF Super Series.
China's Bingjiao, meanwhile, got past Denmark's Mette Poulsen to make it to the second round.
Sindhu was knocked out in the second round of the Denmark Open badminton series, her maiden appearance on the court after winning the silver in Rio de Janeiro. However, this time around, it is expected that the Indian shuttler would be addressing her weak points to try and get a better result in Paris.
The Indian came from behind in her match against Yip Pui to record a flurry of points after trailing 2-6 early on in the opening game. In the second game, the Hong Kong shuttler came strong and turned up the ante. She was leading 19-16 at one point and it almost looked like Yip Pui has the game, but Sindhu fought back and took the game to a different level, before finally winning it 29-27.
The 21-year-old's tenacity and determination did receive a lot of applause and it remains to be seen now if the momentum remains with her going into the match against Bingjiao, who leads 3-2 in their overall head to head record.
Sindhu had defeated the Chinese shuttler in her Denmark Open opening match last week in straight sets.
