Telugu star director Puri Jagannath, who launched Puneet Rajkumar, will be directing the debut film of Nikhil Gowda, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.
The Telugu director confirmed the news to The Times of India and said: "Yes, I am launching him and preparing a script also." The film will go on floors in August and will be simultaneously made in Kannada and Telugu.
A report in Bangalore Mirror states that the movie will be made on a huge budget of ₹60 crore on Kumaraswamy's home banner. It is said that the former Chief Minister had story discussions with leading Tollywood directors like Ram Gopal Varma, Boyapati Seenu, Sukumar and SS Rajamouli.
In the end, Kumaraswamy gave green signal to Jagannath's story. The director has successfully launched star sons like Ram Charan Teja, son of Telugu Megastar Chiranjeevi, and Puneeth in Kannada with "Appu". He has worked with all the current generation Tollywood stars like Mahesh Babu, Pawan Kalyan, Ravi Teja, Nagarjuna and Junior NTR among others in the Telugu film industry.
This astronomical budget clearly shows that the Gowdas are leaving no stone unturned to make Nikhil's launchpad a big one. This is the highest budget film in Kannada and presently "Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna" holds the record for the biggest budget film in Sandalwood. The Darshan's movie was made with ₹22 crore.
The underlining point of the story is that the budget will be the highest for a debut film of a star's son. Ram Charan Teja's "Chiruta" was made with the budget of ₹17 crore and Nagarjuna's son Naga Chaitanya's film "Yee Maaya Chesave" was made with ₹12.5 crore. The other cast and crew details are yet to be announced.
However, there were earlier plans of launching Nikhil Gowda in the remake of Telugu hit film "Leader". But those plans have been dropped.
