The Punjab police on Saturday found an abandoned bag with 11 rusted bombs near Chheherta road in Amritsar.
An abandoned bag was also found in the Sunder Nagar area of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The bomb squad was called to investigate. However, nothing suspicious was found inside the bag.
The Indian armed forces have been put on high alert since the army carried out surgical strikes on seven terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) killing two Pakistani soldiers and 38 terrorists on the night of September 28.
Airports in five states — Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab and Delhi — were put on high alert with security beefed up in the premises following a warning by the intelligence agencies of a possible terror attack. Details of the warnings were also sent to 22 airports across the country.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated with the neighbouring country having carried out 25 ceasefire violations since September 29.
