The city police recovered Pune based hotelier Ajay Choradia's dead body from his hotel office on Monday morning along with a suicide note.
Ajay, 48, was found hanging from a fire extinguisher pipeline in his office on the 12th floor of his hotel Double Tree by Hilton in Chinchwad town. He was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The police also found a suicide note from his office, but will verify the note before confirming the incident as suicide.
"The probe is at a very preliminary stage. We have found a note. But at this stage we cannot discuss the contents, nor can we confirm that it is his handwriting," The Indian Express quoted Additional Commissioner of Police Prakash Mutyal as saying.
A senior police official, who is investigating the case, said that the incident looks like a prima facie case of suicide, however, they can reach the final conclusion only after getting the post-mortem report.
"His body was found hanging with a strip of curtain cloth near the fire duct. But we will be able to confirm this only after we get the post mortem report and a primary probe is conducted into various other aspects. We will also be speaking to family members and staffers of the hotel for more details," he said.
Ajay was the son of businessman Ishwardas Chordia. While Ajay was the managing director of Panchshil Hotels Limited, his elder brother Atul Chordia and younger brother Sagar Chordia looked after the real estate business Panchshil Realty that included residential buildings, office space and two of the Marriot hotel chains – Courtyard By Marriott and JW Marriott -- according to The Times of India report.
Ajay is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter, who will be arriving from UK today to attend his funeral.
