The first week collection reports of Malayalam movies Pulimurugan and Thoppil Joppan hint that the superstars' projects are set to rock the Kerala box office for a long time. Despite locking horns with each other at the box office, Mohanlal and Mammootty's movies have been performing well owing to positive response from the audience.
However, it is Pulimurugan that is leading the race at the box office with an earth shattering business. After making Rs 15 lakh on the sixth day alone with 32 housefull shows, the action thriller has made a gross collection of Rs 6,85,608 lakh on the seventh day at the multiplexes in Kochi. The drop in the collection is due to the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the Bharatiya Janatha Party all over Kerala on Thursday.
Now, the Vysakh directorial is moving towards the Rs 1 crore club with the amount it rakes in from the six multiplexes in the city. The movie, which has already completed 281 shows there, has made a total business of Rs 94.80 lakh within a week of its release.
The average seven day theatre occupancy of the thriller is 99.27 percent with as many as 60,481 viewers watching it at the six screens. Meanwhile, it has also become the fastest movie to cross Rs 50 lakh mark at the Aries Plex multiplex in Thiruvananthapuram.

Mammootty's family comedy entertainer has also been garnering good response from the audience upon its release on October 7. The Johny Antony directorial, in which the megastar plays the role of a Kottayam achayan (name used to call men belonging to the Christian community), has crossed Rs 50 lakh at the Kochi multiplexes within a week of its release. Even though it is approximately half of what Pulimurugan has earned, it has to be noted that the Mohanlal-starrer had 101 shows more than Mammootty's family entertainer at the multiplexes that resulted in the huge box office collection.
After completing 179 shows, Thoppil Joppan has made an approximate business of Rs 50.27 lakh with 81 percent average seven day theatre occupancy. The movie, which earned Rs 6.62 lakh on the sixth day, has witnessed a drop in the collection by making Rs 3.67 lakh on the seventh day from the multiplexes.
