The Income Tax (IT) Department has conducted raids on the residences of Ilayathalapathy Vijay and the makers of "Puli". Actresses Nayantara and Samantha have also come under the scanner of the IT department.
In a surprising development, the Income Tax Department conducted raids at Vijay's house and office, as well as the offices of director Chimbu Deven and the producers, suspecting that the team might have evaded taxes, reports the Hindu.
"Puli" is made on a budget of Rs 100+ crore and this factor seems to have drawn the attention of the Income Tax Department.
The IT sleuths also raided Nayantara's residence in Kochi and Samantha's house in Chennai. More updates on the issue are awaited.
Has he become the victim of direct politics again?
Vijay has often become the victim of dirty politics. All his movies in the last couple of years have landed in one or the other controversy. His "Thalaivaa" was unofficially banned in the state just before the release, when exhibitors boycotted the movie citing bomb threat if the film was played in theatres.
Now, the time of raid has raised eyebrows, and many wonder if there is any conspiracy behind it.
Coming back to "Puli", the mega-budget movie is releasing worldwide on 1 October. The Tamil movie has Sudeep, Shruti Haasan, Hansika Motwani and Sridevi Kapoor in key roles. Vijay's former manager PT Selvakumar in association with Shibu Thameens has jointly produced the flick.
