Ilayathalapathy Vijay's "Puli" has performed well in its second weekend in Chennai. In fact, the movie has overpowered many movies, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Bollywood movie "Jazbaa" and Nayantara's "Maya".
The Vijay starrer had 198 shows in its second weekend from which it made a business of Rs 76.49 lakh, reports Behindwoods. In the opening weekend, "Puli" had collected Rs 2.84 crore from 465 shows. The total collection of the movie from 11 days in Chennai now stands at Rs 4.65 crore.
As there was no big Tamil release, "Puli" enjoyed good occupancy in many theatres on Saturday and Sunday. Aishwaraya Rai Bachchan's comeback movie "Jazbaa" only had 57 shows from which it made Rs 16.81 lakh in its first weekend and this is considered as an average opening, given the popularity of the actress in the state.
Nayantara's "Maya" is in the third position in Chennai by making Rs 14.87 lakh. It marginally lost the second position to "Jazbaa". The supernatural-thriller has collected Rs 2.99 crore by the end of its fourth weekend.
New release "Masala Padam", which has got average reviews, has fetched Rs 13.56 lakh from 87 shows. It is followed by Jayam Ravi and Arvind Swamy starrer "Thani Oruvan", which has minted Rs 5.38 lakh from 33 shows to take its total collection to Rs 6.48 crore by the end of its seventh weekend.
"Thani Oruvan" is a surprise winner at the Chennai box office, which has made one of the highest collections in the year after "I", "Baahubali" and "Yennai Arindhaal".
Bollywood movie "Singh is Bliing" has raked in Rs 1.27 crore from 12 shows. The total collection of the flick now stands at Rs 21.80 lakh by the end of its second weekend. "Trisha Illana Nayanthara" and "Kuttram Kadithal" made notable business last weekend in Chennai.
