Anushka Shetty's "Rudhramadevi", also spelt as "Rudramadevi", has been well-received by the Tamil audience, if its dominance at the Chennai box office is any indication. In fact, it has managed to perform better than many films, including Vijay's "Puli" and Ram Charan Teja's "Bruce Lee".
In the opening weekend, "Rudhramadevi" has collected Rs 81.31 lakh from 213 shows from both Tamil and Telugu versions, reports Behindwoods.
It has to be noted that the Telugu version of the film was released on 9 October. Ram Charan Teja starrer Telugu film "Bruce Lee" is in the second position by making Rs 37.55 lakh from 126 shows.
Interestingly, Nayantara's "Maya" is holding on well, as the Tamil film, in its fifth weekend, has minted Rs 10.02 lakh from 45 shows. The total business of the movie till date stands at Rs 3.23 crore.
The most shocking part of the Chennai box office story is that Vijay's latest release "Puli' has been pushed to fourth position in its third weekend where it made only Rs 8.90 lakh from 45 shows. After a fantastic opening weekend followed by a decent second weekend, the Kollywood flick failed to pull the audience in big numbers last weekend. So far, it has raked in Rs 5.04 crore.
Generally, Vijay's movies do good business at the box office for at least three weekends. But "Puli" is an exception.
Jayam Ravi's "Thani Oruvan", which completed its 50-day run in theatres recently, had 30 shows and earned Rs 5.71 crore. The total business of the movie now stands at Rs 6.59 crore after the end of its eighth weekend.
"Masala Padam" and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's "Jazbaa" could not post big numbers at the Chennai box office.
