PlayStation 4 owners who use PlayStation Network (PSN) have been burdened since past some days with an error, known as Error Code NP-37680-4.
PlayStation forums are replete with members facing the issue. The users are unable to login to their PSN accounts as when they try to, they get Error Code NP-37680-4 or Error Code NW-31456-9, said a member.
It must also be noticed that not all the users are facing this issue, as can be seen from ssaiga12's post below:
"Just got error code np-37680-4 today and cannot log into my PSN on my PS4. Have tried everything I know to do with no luck. My son is on the same internet connection and is having no problem with his connection."
When one member notified PlayStation support, they directed him to open the specified ports but the issue continued. So he tried logging in through his brother's account and it worked. He got back to PlayStation support team and narrated his issue. They said that the server his account was attached to might be undergoing maintenance and his case was assigned to the team working on the servers. The PlayStation support team said that the issue must "clear up automatically".
Attack of the Fanboy noted that the issue was "hard to pinpoint" since it was not regarding connectivity to internet but with certain PS4 systems being unable to connect to PSN.
It also said that if there is a PSN issue, normally, it is reflected in the Status page, but in this case it is not so.
PlayStation has said that it is investigating. It has been asking users to "restart your modem and router."
It suggested one user to follow the steps below when he complained of facing Error Code NW-31204-0 (PlayStation Support):
Suggestion 1: Try using an Ethernet cable to directly connect your PS4 to your modem or router.
Suggestion 2: If you are using a Wi-Fi connection, place the PS4 and the router closer together, and make sure there are no obstructions between them.
Suggestion 3: Other devices on your network might be using a large amount of bandwidth. Wait until they are finished and try again.
Suggestion 4: Check the connection status of the PS4 in [Settings] > [Network] > [Test Internet Connection].
Suggestion 5: The following port numbers are used to connect with the PSN servers using the Internet. Make sure they are not blocked by the router.
- TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
- UDP: 3478, 3479
- Suggestion 6: If you have been using specific DNS server, go to [Settings] > [Network] > [Set Up Internet Connection] > [Custom] and change the DNS settings.
This issues have mostly been affecting PSN users from the US, but the users from other countries are also facing the same issue, according to the report.
It is been predicted if Sony's recent system update 3.10 had any role to play in the issue.
