Singer Zubeen Garg, who hails from Assam, recently took dig at Priyanka Chopra while expressing discontent at the brand ambassador of Assam tourism featuring in "Awesome Assam" videos.
Zubeen while performing at an event in Charaideo district of Assam, lashed out at the government asking if the "Awesome Assam" campaign is all about Priyanka. The singer said that he was irritated to see Priyanka featuring all over the videos.
A number of videos have been made under the "Awesome Assam" campaign to promote tourism in the state.
"I want to ask whether 'Awesome Assam' means only Priyanka Chopra. In the entire video of the campaign, we could just see the actor. She is neither a rhino nor a tiger. She neither belongs here. There are so many other beautiful videos from other states like Kerala, Manipur. I do not understand the purpose behind the video (Awesome Assam)," the popular singer said to a big crowd, according to local publication Time8.
"I don't have any problem with Priyanka Chopra. I want to say to the Tourism department that the 'Awesome Assam' campaign was nothing but a joke," Zubeen added.
Assam Tourism Development Corporation chairman, Jayanta Malla Baruah also reacted to the singer's comments. "Zubeen is a very good friend of mine. Every artists have their own ways of expressing. May be he did not go through the entire campaign properly," he said.
Zubeen is one such singer who often appears in news for controversial statements. A few months ago, he had triggered a row spoken against the practice of animal sacrifice at Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, and in the process slammed actor Govinda as well.
Demanding an end to the ritual of animal sacrifice, Zubeen had said that Goddess Kamakhya never seeks animal sacrifice and "Govinda should have sacrificed himself instead". It was reported that the veteran actor had offered animal sacrifice at the temple then.
