Priyanka Chopra's successful stint in the international grid is not only getting her the much-deserved praise, but also projects she seemed to have lost to her contemporaries. Apparently, she is back in the Amrita Pritam biopic, which is to be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
According to a Mid-Day report, it will take time for her to begin work on the biopic as her commitments out west are plenty. To be helmed by Jasmeet Dodhi, "Gustakhiyan" will highlight author Amrita's stormy relationship with legendary poet Sahir Ludhianvi.
Earlier this year, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan were said to be doing the film. Their chemistry in "Piku" and its stellar box office performance made them a perfect choice for it. This was a setback for PC's fans who were hoping she would star in the biopic.
A Deccan Chronicle source had confidently said the "Jai Gangaajal" actress won't be taking the project up, but looks like the tables have turned now. "Since Priyanka got along very well with 'Gustakhiyan' producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, reports of her playing Amrita Pritam were taken to be authentic. But the truth is, Priyanka is not doing 'Gustakhiyan,'" the daily quoted the insider as saying.
In other news, Priyanka has been switching roles and shuttling between cities honouring her professional commitments. From playing the wrongly-accused FBI recruit in ABC's thriller series "Quantico" to essaying the badass Victoria Leeds in Dwayne Johnson's "Baywatch," she's been on a roll.
Deepika too has been living it up on the sets of "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," her Hollywood debut in which she plays Serena, ex-girlfriend to Xander (Vin Diesel). Directed by DJ Caruso, the action flick also stars Tony Jaa, Ruby Rose and Nina Dobrev in key roles.
