South star Prithviraj is rumoured to be play the lead in the Hindi remake of critically acclaimed film Malayalam film "Shutter".

The original was directed by Joy Mathew and featured Lal, SajithaMadathil, Srinivasan and Vinay Fort in the lead roles. The film was a major success and won many awards in festival circuits.

Alphonse Putharen, whose debut film "Neram" was a success, will be directing the Bollywood remake. He is yet to confirm if Prithviraj will be part of the film.

"The casting will be finalised by the second week of October. The scripting of the Hindi adaptation is over, and we will start work on the film as soon as the casting is done," Alphonse told The Time of India.

"I wanted to upgrade myself as a director, and do something with more reach. So I was on the lookout for something to do in Hindi, and that's when I came across Shutter."

Earlier reports suggested that the film would star Anil Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Abhay Deol, before Prithviraj was considered for the project. The 30-year-old actor made his Bollywood debut with "Ayya" opposite Rani Mukherjee and then went on play an important role in "Aurangzeb". While "Ayya" turned out to be a box office dud, "Aurangzeb" fared relatively better.

"Shutter' narrates the story of a Keralaite who returns home from the Middle East for a break. The film shows him trapped inside a room in with a prostitute. Unable to open the shutter, he spends a whole day with the prostitute inside the room. The film takes a look at the hypocrisies seen in society today.
