Lijo Jose Pellissery's upcoming multi-starrer "Double Barrel" will be released online, apart from the regular theatrical release as the makers believe that it will reduce the threats of piracy.
The film, which stars Prithviraj and Indrajith Sukumaran, will be released online, except in India and UAE, where it will be released only in theatres. Co-producer Shaji Nadesan announced the internet release during a recent interview and also confirmed that the theatre owners supported the decision.
This will make "Double Barrel" the first ever Malayalam film to have such a wide-scale online release. The comedy-thriller is one of the most awaited movies in the Malayalam industry.
The shooting for the movie had started in July 2014 in Kochi and ended in Goa, having one of the longest shooting schedules in the history of Mollywood.
"Double Barrel" teaser was released a few weeks ago and the makers are likely to launch the trailer soon.
The film will also feature Arya, Sunny Wayne, Swathi Reddy, Asif Ali and Isha Sharvani in key roles. The film is slated to be released for Onam 2015.
