Musician Prince is such an ardent fan of Fox's comedy series "New Girl" that he requested show producers to give him a cameo so that he could help the show's lead characters work on their relationship.
According to reports, 55-year-old Prince contacted Zooey Deschanel, who plays Jess, to help him be a part of the show, as he knows "everything about the show."
"He contacted us last season because he's a huge fan," executive producer Brett Baer told E! News. "He knows everything about the show. He contacted Zooey [Deschanel] and Hannah [Simone] directly and asked to do the show. We couldn't work it out last year. But when the Super Bowl thing was floated, it was perfect timing."
Reports have it that Prince will play himself in the episode titled "Party Time," and his character helps Jess and Nick (Deschanel and Jake Johnson's characters in the series) sort out the issues in their relationship. The episode will air after the Super Bowl in February.
Super Bowl is one of the most-watched events on television, and the shows following the game generally attract high viewership.
Praising Prince's acting skills, Johnson said that working with the musician made him nervous, as he is a huge fan.
"It was the first time in a long time that I got genuinely nervous," Johnson told E! News. "As an actor you're used to working with other actors, but seeing Prince there threw me a little bit."
Dave Finkel, executive producer of the show, also applauded Prince's comic instincts and noted that it was hilarious to watch the musician in action. "He's genuinely funny," Finkel said. "He's got a very quiet, wry sense of humor but he kills."
