The ongoing summer transfer window will close on August 9, a day before the start of the Premier League, leaving all the clubs chasing for the best possible signings.
Manchester United continue their pursuit of a couple of players who had excellent World Cup campaigns. Ivan Perisic and Harry Maguire were key in the midfield and defence for Croatia and England, respectively.
Jose Mourinho believes the duo would bolster his squad. Perisic, in particular, seems earmarked as a replacement French striker Anthony Martial at Old Trafford.
Martial was not selected for the World Cup-winning squad this summer and is out of favour with Mourinho as well.
United though face difficulty in securing their desired signings, particularly with Leicester who are keen on continuing with Maguire. Perisic and Inter Milan are yet to be convinced by Mourinho, according to media reports.
Petr Cech to fight for his position at Arsenal
Arsenal may have signed goalkeeper Bernd Leno for a reported £22 million from Bayer Leverkusen but Petr Cech still wants to stay on and fight for the first-choice position. The 36-year-old often had to compete with David Ospina for goalkeeping honours last season.
Arsenal reportedly wants to sell Ospina to Turkish club Besiktas for around £7.1 million. Besiktas is negotiating with the Gunners to lower their price to the £4-£5 million margin.
The price is a pittance compared to the £65 million paid by Liverpool to Roma to secure the goalkeeping services of Alisson. That figure represents the most amount paid in club history to get a goalkeeper.
Liverpool, in particular, would have wanted to spend more to ensure that no gaffes are committed by their number one at decisive moments in their campaign. The errors of Loris Karius in the Champions League final are still fresh in the memory.
Suprise Chelsea signing
Another goalkeeper who is perhaps most remembered for his error on the big stage — Robert Green — makes a surprise move to Chelsea.
The surprise comes from the fact that the London club would be interested in the 38-year-old goalkeeper whose biggest claim to (in) fame is his mistake against the US in the 2010 World Cup. Perhaps there is a way too for Karius to redeem himself to stay at a big club, although the 25-year-old would hope it doesn't take that much time to do so.
