Malayalam movie "Premam", which has Nivin Pauly in the lead, is now breaking box office collection records overseas. The movie has surpassed the earnings of Bollywood film "Any Body Can Dance" (ABCD 2) in the UK.
Bollywood Hungama reports that in its second weekend in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the movie was ranked 17th, followed by "ABCD 2" at rank 18 and "Dil Dhadakne Do" at 26.
In its second weekend, "Premam" earned £40,853 from 37 screens, taking its gross collection in the region to £70,050 (₹70.33 lakh).
"ABCD 2" collected £32,134 from 29 screens and its total collection after the end of the second weekend stood at £193,621 (₹1.94 crore).
The most interesting aspect of "Premam" is the increase in screen count. In its first weekend, "Premam" was released in 17 screens, which went up to 37 by the second weekend.
Meanwhile, "ABCD 2" saw a decrease in screens in its second weekend. In its first weekend, the Varun Dhawan- Shraddha Kapoor starrer was released in 45 screens, but this came down to 29 in the subsequent weekend. The decrease is being attributed to the Punjabi flick "Sardaar Ji", which was released in19 screens in its its first weekend.
The box office collection of "Premam" in the US is still awaited. The distributor of the movie in the US, Great India Films, had confirmed that there is an increase in the number of screens at various locations in the country.
The last official update from the distributor said that the movie earned $178,000 in two weeks.
