Naga Chaitanya's Premam has got superb opening and shown decent growth at the US box office on its second day. The collection of the movie has inched closer to $0.5 million mark in the country.
Premam is a remake of Malayalam film with the same name and the success of original had created lot of hype for the Telugu film. BlueSky Cinemas acquired its overseas theatrical rights, shelling out hefty sum and premiered in around in 120 screens in the North America on Thursday night and it got good response.
Premam collected $74,219 at the US box office in the Thursday premieres and became the biggest opener for Naga Chaitanya, beating the record of his previous release Dochay. The movie garnered positive talk and the strong word of mouth helped it register record collection at the US box office on its first day.
The Chandoo Mondeti-directed movie grossed $134,819 at the US box office on the first day and it shattered the opening weekend record of Dochay, which was highest grossing film Naga Chaitanya, with its collection $130,535 in three days. Taran Adarsh tweeted: "Telugu film #Premam has a STRONG start in USA... Thu pre $ 74,219, Fri $ 134,819. Total: $ 209,038 [₹ 1.39 cr]. @Rentrak."
The Naga Chaitanya and Shruti Haasan starrer showed further growth and made superb collection on Saturday. As per early estimates, Premam has collected $157,129 at the US box office on its second day. Box Office Telugu tweeted: "#Premam continuing decent run at the North America boxoffice on Saturday. $157,129 as of now. Final numbers yet to report."
Premam collected $366,167 at the US box office in two days and the number is likely to cross $400,000 when the makers reveal the final figures of Saturday. The movie is expected to cross half-million-dollar mark in the country on Sunday.
