Salman Khan starrer "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" has made earth-shattering business in most of the places in India and around the world but its Kollywood version has failed to make it big in Tamil Nadu.
The movie was released in both Hindi and Tamil in the state on 12 November, in 45 and 65 screens respectively. While the Hindi version received a good opening, the Kollywood version failed to pull the audience to theatres.
In fact, distributors were reluctant to reveal any sort of box-office numbers regarding the Tamil dub of PRDP, claiming it to be that bad," a report on Firstpost says. It is analysed that the dubbed version did not connect with the audience.
Traditionally, the Tamil Nadu market has never been good for Hindi movies or its dubbed films. It is only in the recent years that Bollywood films are gaining foothold. Shah Rukh Khan's "Ra One", "Chennai Express" and Salman Khan's "Ek Tha Tiger" are the few B-town films, which have done well in the state. When it comes to the dubbed films, "Krissh 3" and "Bang Bang" have turned out to be crowd pullers.
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" has done considerably well in Chennai. The film had raked in Rs 42.93 lakh in opening weekend and so far it has raked in Rs 90.68 lakh, which is a good amount for a non-Tamil films in the state. Salman Khan's previous film "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" had garnered Rs 1.30 crore in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" Worldwide Collection
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", which has Sonam Kapoor as the female lead, is written and directed by Sooraj R Barjatya. The worldwide collection of the movie now stands at Rs 400+ crore with the Indian market contributing Rs 310+ crore (net income of Rs 207+ crore). The remaining amount is from overseas centres.
