Salman Khan's "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" (PRDP) has made a decent collection at the Indian box office in 15 days. The movie has beaten the two-week collection record of Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" (HNY).
Since there was no big ticket Bollywood release, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" was expected to do well in its second week. But when compared to its opening day, the movie witnessed around 80% drop on its second Friday. However, the film had decent growth on Saturday and Sunday. It collected Rs 20.40 crore nett at the Indian box office in its second weekend.
On its second Monday, the Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer once again had a steep decline in its business and the movie maintained rock-steady on the following days. On weekdays, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" has collected Rs 10.31 crore nett at the Indian box office, taking its second week domestic total collection to Rs 30.71 crore nett.
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" has collected Rs 203.53 crore nett at the Indian box office in two weeks. "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" has beaten the two-week business record of "Happy New Year", which has collected Rs 193.44 crore nett at the Indian box office in 14 days.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#PremRatanDhanPayo [Week 2] Fri 5.50 cr, Sat 6.70 cr, Sun 8.20 cr, Mon 2.70 cr, Tue 2.70 cr, Wed 2.90 cr, Thu 2.01 cr. Total: ₹ 203.53 cr."
The Sooraj Barjatya-directed family drama has become second highest grosser movie of 2015 in the domestic market after "Bajrangi Bhaijaan". Trade expert Komal Nahta tweeted, "PRDP becomes the 2nd film to cross 200 crore in 2015. Total all-India net for 14 days (it opened on a Thursday): Rs. 201.52 crore!"
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" has become the third film of Salman Khan to surpass the mark of Ra 200 crore nett in the domestic market after "Kick" and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan". Taran Adarsh â€tweeted, "And #PremRatanDhanPayo crosses ₹ 200 cr in India. 3rd Salman Khan starrer to attain the feat, after #BajrangiBhaijaan and #Kick..."
In its third week, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" will clash with Ranbir Kapoor's Tamasha, which is likely to take toll on its business. Its current pace of collection shows that the movie will not be able to beat the record of "Kick", which is the second highest grosser for Salman Khan with its lifetime collection – Rs 231.85 crore.
