Salman Khan's first Telugu movie "Prem Leela" is set for a grand release in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (AP/T) this weekend. Will it will beat the records of "PK", "Dhoom 3", "Chennai Express" and "Krrish 3"?
In recent years, some superstars like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan have tried to dub their recent releases to get closer to their fans down south. They have been successful, with this dubbed versions turning out to be blockbusters at the box office.
Their movies like "PK", "Dhoom 3", "Chennai Express" and "Krrish 3" were dubbed in Tamil and Telugu with the same names. All these movies were released in 300 to 500 cinema halls in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and collected over Rs 8 crore to Rs 10 crore.
Salman Khan was the one Bollywood superstar who never considered dubbing his movies in Telugu in the past. But for the first time, he is set to entertain his fans with the dubbed version of his latest outing "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" (PRDP), which is slated to hit theatres on 12 November.
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" is a romantic drama film, which has been written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya, produced by Rajshri Productions. Salman Khan is playing hero Prem in the film, while Sonam Kapoor, who has teamed up with Salman for the first time, appears as his love interest. The movie has been promoted as the next big family entertainer after "Hum Saath Saath Hain".
Family drama has been the most success genre in Telugu speaking regions and "Attarintiki Daredi", "Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu" and "Govindudu Andarivadele" are some of the best examples of it. In a bid to cash in on this trend, the makers have dubbed "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" in Telugu. Interestingly, Ram Charan Teja has dubbed for Salman Khan's voice in its Telugu version.
A leading distribution house has acquired the theatrical rights of "Prem Leela" for a whopping price. The company has planned to release it in around 400 cinema halls across the Telugu speaking states. They have also shelled out a hefty sum on its promotions on various platforms.
The Telugu version of "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" has got huge hype and promotion and is set for a massive release on the same date as the original. Trade experts in film nagar predict that it will start with a bang at the box office and break all the records of previously dubbed movies.
