The post-mortem report of Pratyusha Banerjee's body reveals that it is a "clear case of suicide. According to the report, Pratyusha died of "asphyxia" (suffocation) and also ligature marks were seen around the neck.
The post-mortem report also stated that though no foul play was involved, it could not be completely ruled out either, Deccan Chronicle reported.
After the post-mortem, Pratyusha's body was handed over to her parents, who arrived from Jamshedpur Saturday morning. Her parents brought her body directly to Oshiwara electric crematorium for the last rites. Her funeral took place at around 6 p.m., and for the last rites, she was draped in bridal attire.
Before her final rites, Pratyusha's mother sang "Aaj jaane ki zidd na karo," reports Deccan Chronicle. Pratyusha's family, friends and industry colleagues bid a tearful adieu to the actress.
Pratyusha was found hanging Friday, at her apartment in Mumbai. Mumbai police detained her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh, who was the first person to see her hanging from the ceiling fan, Saturday morning in connection with her suicide.
Rahul, who is an actor and producer, in his statement to the police said that he took her to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
"We used to stay in a 2 BHK flat. We had two keys with ourselves where one was with Pratyusha and one was with me. When I entered the bedroom, I saw Pratyusha hung to the ceiling. I immediately called the neighbours and with their help, I took her to the Kokilaben Hospital. We assumed she was alive, however, she was not. I got so scared, that I did not inform the police. It was the hospital authorities who informed them. After the doctor's declaration, I called up Pratyusha's family members and few of our close friends," Rahul told police, according to India-Forums.
