Aamir Khan's "PK," which was released in 2014, remains the biggest grosser worldwide. Several big Bollywood films were released after "PK," but none have managed to break the record of Aamir's film.
However, trade analysts are now hoping that "Baahubali: The Conclusion" (Baahubali 2), starring Prabhas-Rana Daggubati, will break "PK" biggest worldwide box office grosser record. "Baahubali 2" will release next year in April, but the film has already started generating a good hype.
"I think it will. Baahubali: The Conclusion is going to a BIG film. It is one of the biggest Telugu films and it also one of the biggest brands in terms of franchises. Part two (of a franchise) is always going to be a bigger cash in the scenario," trade expert Amul Mohan told Bollywood Life when asked about the film breaking "PK" record.
Amul further explained why "Baahubali 2" is the most anticipated film and why it will break all the possible records. "Because the first one was a big hit, everybody talks about that film. When there is a sequel, the anticipation and the monetary gains are on the higher side. Also, it's been a hit on TV as well. People are really looking forward to what part 2's going to be. It's one of those movies which comes once in a lifetime. And you want to see what the conclusion of the film is. It is rightly titled also, Baahubali: The Conclusion," he added.
Although the hype is positive and audiences are looking forward to watching "Baahubali 2," one cannot dismiss the fact that Aamir is ready with his next Christmas release "Dangal." Aamir's films, released during Christmas, set a new benchmark at the box office for other films and "Dangal" is expected to create new targets for the other films.
