In what could be considered as one more feather in Baahubali 2's cap, the SS Rajamouli creation is set to be released in another territory. Well, the multilingual Indian movie will hit the screens in Japan.
As per the reports, the Japanese dubbed version has cleared the censor formalities and has bagged 'G,' which is more or less to be 'U' certificate as per the Indian film industry. The film will now hit the screens on December 29.
The release of Baahubali 2 in Japan will give a golden opportunity for the film to surpass the collection of Aamir Khan's Dangal, which had minted over Rs 1,900 crore at the worldwide box office in its lifetime. If SS Rajamouli's film can beat this record, it will get the credit of being the highest-grossing movie of all-time in the history of Indian cinema.
It has to be also seen whether Baahubali 2 will reach the Rs 2,000-crore mark, a feat no Indian film has achieved to date. So far, the Prabhas and Rana Daggubati-starrer has minted over Rs 1,700 crore.
Japan market is an unexplored market for Indian movies. But only a handful of movies have done well with a decent market for Rajinikanth. Kannada actor Upendra's films were released earlier but failed to mint big money.
The Baahubali series has Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia in the female leads. Shobu Yarlagadda has bankrolled the films with a combined budget of over Rs 450 crore.
The first instalment was released in July 2015 and grossed Rs 600 crore at the worldwide box office. This was one of the highest-grossing movies of all-time two years ago.
The second instalment was released in April 2017 and has so far done close to three times as much business as its predecessor. It is likely to be released in China and a few other countries in the coming months.
