The first look of director Omung Kumar's biographical drama "Sarbjit" featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is gripping. Omung along with the cast of the film, BJP president Amit Shah and Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari revealed the first look of "Sarabjit" Monday evening in Delhi.
The first look features Aishwarya Rai, who plays the role of Sarabjit's sister Dalbir Kaur, in a de-glam avatar. She sports a worried look that shows the struggle Dalbir faced for her brother's release from a Pakistan jail.
"Sarbjit" is a gripping tale of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of terrorism by Pakistani court and how Dalbir fought relentlessly for her brother's release from Pakistan's jail. Sarabjit was sentenced to death; however, in 2012, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari pardoned his sentence. Sarabjit was supposed to walk free after completing his prison term, but Lahore prison inmates brutally attacked him in 2013 and he succumbed to his injuries May 2, 2013.
Talking about her experience, Aishwarya said that she is honoured to play the role of Dalbir in the film. "It's a subject we are all very familiar with and those who are not, we were very keen that they get to know this story because it's a very important one that we as a nation would need to understand, recognise and respect," she said during the poster release, according to IANS.
Apart from Aishwarya Rai, the film also features Randeep Hooda as Sarabjit and Richa Chadha as his wife.
"It's a true story based on a sister's struggle. It's a political story. We wanted to create awareness through a different way. That's why we decided to launch first poster at Amit Shah's residence," director Omung said at the poster release.
The event was held at Shah's residence in Delhi and Aishwarya, Richa, actor Darshan Kumar and movie producers Bhushan Kumar, Vashu Bhagnani and Sandeep Singh were also present at the poster launch.
"I would like to congratulate the team for making a film on this topic. It's the story of a young man, who gave away all his life for his nation. I would like congratulate the whole team and wish them success for the film. I hope that the message of the film should reach to every part of India. Dalbir Kaur and Sarabjit Singh's struggle will motivate everyone," Shah said at the event.
"Sarbjit" starring Aishwarya, Randeep and Richa will release May 19 worldwide.
