Apple's latest flagship smartphones – the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus – were released after months of hype. It was reported that the devices might bail out the Cupertino giant from poor sales of iPhones in the last few quarters, but it appears to be a case of false hopes, with its sales said to be lower than its predecessor's.
German research firm GfK has claimed in a report that the sale over the launch weekend of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is 25 percent lower year-over-year, according to PhoneArena.
"We do not confirm publication of a report on Apple's iPhone7 sales. We did not publish such figures for external release," tweeted GfK after reports of sluggish iPhone 7 sales affected Apple's stocks on Friday.
Apple's shares closed 1.7 percent down on Friday, ending the week at $112.71.
"Numbers on sales or market shares are confidentially provided to our clients and shall not be quoted or released to the public," GfK tweeted. "As usual, we will not comment on the numbers or their accuracy."
However, Digitimes has also hinted a sharp fall for iPhone 7 in a report, claiming that Apple has asked its manufacturing partners that stock ICs to supply 50 million units of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus for Q3 2016, 45 million units for Q4 2016, and 35-37 million units in Q1 2017, which shows a 20 percent fall in demand.
