Pokemon Go sensation has been one of the highly-discussed topics around the globe, but Indian users have been left out in the cold all this long. Reliance Jio puts an end to that with its partnership with Niantic Labs – the makers of the AR-based game – in India.
Pokemon Go will be available for download in the country from Wednesday, December 14, connecting millions more to the viral mobile game in the history. Reliance Jio and Niantic Labs will ensure an optimum gaming experience, and the Jio's Happy new Year offer is an incentive to that.
"We are delighted to partner with Jio to launch Pokémon GO in India," John Hanke, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Niantic, said in a statement. "It's exciting to see Pokémon fans in India step out and explore their neighbourhoods in search of Pokémon and Jio's disruptive high-speed 4G LTE Network will be an excellent way to experience the game."

Pokemon Go has touched a record-breaking 500 million downloads across the globe and now players in India will have official access to the game, which has been rumoured to be launched in the country for months now. The new partnership will also turn thousands of Reliance Digital and select partner stores across Indian into PokeStops or Gyms for the players, which will allow players to catch, train and battle Pokemon.
As an incentive to Jio users, the company's JioChat app will have an exclusive Pokemon Go Channel. Through this, players can connect with other players, share tips, contests, clues and special event updates. Players won't have to go to Pokemon Go communities online, instead get all levelling-up tips and tricks at the fingertips.
Reliance Jio recently announced that its Jio Welcome Offer would get renewed automatically on January 1, 2017, extending the free 4G data and voice call benefits till March 31, 2017. Any new user signing up for Jio's network will also earn the same privilege starting immediately.
In case you are worried, Pokemon Go is not an exclusive game for Jio users. Even if you are on Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, or any other carrier, you will still be able to play the game like others. But Jio's free 4G data offering is an incentive to Pokemon Go players as there will be no data charges involved till March 31, as the AR-based game requires players to stay connected to the internet at all times while playing.
