Modi is likely to announce a mega development package of Rs. 70,000 crore for Jammu and Kashmir during the day-long visit to Jammu.
The security has been beefed up in the city and in and around the University against the backdrop of several infiltration bids from the Pakistani side of the border.
"Elaborate security arrangements have been kept in place ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Jammu," SSP (in charge) Jammu Rajiv Panday told PTI.
No vehicles will be allowed inside the University building without proper checking and people entering the venue will be allowed inside only if they have a valid identity card, he said.
A team of Special Protection Group (SPG) of Prime Minister's security arrived in Jammu on Thursday and reviewed the security arrangements at the venue.
"We have covered all the areas near the venue, the police and other security agencies have sanitised the area and personnel have been deployed on all the high-rise buildings in and around the venue," Panday said.
Additional checkpoints have also been set up across the area in view of the several infiltration attempts in the last few days. The Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt in Poonch, while another bid was foiled by the BSF in RS Pura sector, ANI reports.
In the recent days, Pakistan violated ceasefire thrice in two days. Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing, killing one woman and injuring many others, including civilians and BSF jawans.
