Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that the Central government will be setting up a task force that oversees the nation's preparations for the next three Olympic games - 2020, 2024 and 2028.
The new measure is being taken to improve the Indian contingent's performance in the coming Olympics after a not-so-impressive performance in Rio 2016, that saw India bagging just two medals -- the silver through PV Sindhu and the bronze, through Sakshi Malik.
PM Modi announced that the task force, which will comprise of some in-house and outside sports experts, will oversee the current scenario of Indian sports and prepare an overall strategy for sports facilities, training, selection procedure and other related matters.
The announcement came during a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday. The team is expected to be set up in a few days' time.
