Royal Enfield has showcased its newest offerings, the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 at EICMA show in Milan in November. Later, the Chennai-based automaker also showcased the twins at Rider Mania last month. Both motorcycles come with a new engine and latest technologies, and that has already prompted many buyers to save money. But when will you be able to book the bikes in India?
During the global launch, Royal Enfield has confirmed, it will start the sale of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 in Europe from April 2018. The India launch is expected in mid-2018. Express Drives reports that the company's Indian dealerships will start accepting bookings for the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 in April 2018. Aspiring buyers will be able to book both the motorcycles across India at a token amount of Rs 5,000, the report adds.
Both motorcycles are powered by a four-stroke, single overhead cam, air-cooled, 648cc parallel-twin cylinder engine jointly developed by Royal Enfield's UK Technology Centre and Chennai team. The new engine has an output capability of 47bhp and 52Nm torque.
The Interceptor 650 rekindles the idea of the 1960's fun and relaxed motorcycles. With its classic tear-drop shaped fuel-tank, twin-seat and new wide braced handlebars, the Interceptor 650 is truly a tribute to the original Interceptor.
The Continental GT 650, on the other hand, retains its central cafe racer character while bringing in new engineering and design improvements. It shares its engine, chassis and running parts with its twin, the Interceptor 650, while offering completely different ergonomics and style. The Continental GT 650 sports disc brakes front and the rear with ABS. The upswept exhaust and rear-set footrests give the motorcycle the true cafe racer traits. The single seat, sculpted tank, and clip-on bars complete the look.
