A collision was averted at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport in Guwahati on Sunday, when a plane was on the runway for takeoff, while another aborted landing at the last minute, officials said.
The Spice jet aircraft (SG 653) from Agartala decided to go around after failing to get clearance from the Air Traffic Control for landing.
Airport officials said the incident took place when an Indigo flight (6E-571) bound for Delhi was on the runway for takeoff.
"While 6E-571 was on the runway to get airborne, one Spicejet flight from Delhi was on its final approach to the runway. So the ATC did not give clearance to the Spicejet flight and it aborted landing and decided to go around for about 40 minutes," said airport director G A Balhara.
The distance between the two aircraft was just around 3 km during the incident, he said, adding that a probe has been ordered into the incident.
