Aamir Khan's "PK" (Peekay) finished its first week run at the domestic box office on a grand note. The comedy drama, also starring Anushka Sharma, grossed ₹183.09 crore from its opening week run in India.
The first week income of "PK" is now the second highest total ever, after "Dhoom 3". "PK" has managed to push past the records of several big budgets movies including, "Krrish 3", "Kick", "Happy New Year" and others.
"Dhoom 3" remains at top with ₹188.9 crore, followed by "PK" at second spot with ₹183.09 crore and "Krrish 3" at third position with ₹166.52 crore.
Rajkumar Hirani's film's first week total is huge due to its consistent performance at the box office. The film had a solid weekend and the occupancy remained strong at theaters during weekdays as well.
"PK" has been going strong during weekdays and on Thursday the business witnessed an upward trend due to Christmas holiday.
In its opening weekend the film raked in ₹95.41 crore, on Monday it earned ₹21.22 crore, Tuesday ₹19.36 crore, Wednesday ₹19.55 crore and Thursday ₹27.55 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.
Hirani's film has also shattered the lifetime record of Hrithik Roshan's "Bang Bang". "PK" collection after seven days stands at ₹183.09 crore, while "Bang Bang" lifetime domestic total is ₹181 crore.
"PK" has also gained the third position at the 2014 domestic box office chart list, pushing "Bang Bang" to fourth spot. "PK" next target is to beat Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" lifetime collection record.
And going by its pace, it looks like the film will shatter the next target before second weekend.
