Aamir Khan-starrer "PK" ("Peekay") has been doing exceptional business not just in India, but also in overseas markets. The film has fared well in its second week and is expected to continue its good run in the third week.
"PK" has grossed over $17 million in international markets so far and its performance has been fantastic in key markets, like the US and Canada. The film has reportedly grossed over $9 million in North American box office and is said to have crossed "Dhoom 3" box office collections, which stood at slightly over $8 million.
"PK" is currently the highest grossing Bollywood film of all times in North American box office, though "Dhoom 3" still holds the top spot in the list of highest grossing Bollywood films at the overseas box offices, with a collection of $28 million.
If "PK" continues its good run, it will soon surpass the $10 million mark at the North American box office, setting a new record for a Hindi film.
The Aamir-starrer has been witnessing repeat audiences in theatres and its collections saw significant growth on the new year day. The film did good business on 1 January, minting over ₹13 crore in India.
The two-week collections of "PK" amount to ₹277.80 crore at the domestic box office, reported Koimoi. The film is all set to cross "Dhoom 3" collections and emerged as the biggest all-time grosser in India.
The comedy-drama flick has earned good profit in terms of Return on Investments (ROI). The Aamir-starrer made a ROI of 227% in just 14 days. The film is currently placed third in the list of 2014's films with best ROI. "Queen" and "Yaariyaan" occupy the top two slots, according to Koimoi. "PK" is expected to beat "Yaariyaan" and enter the second spot in the soon.
The Rajkumar Hirani directorial is expected to dominate the screens even in its third and fourth weeks, as there are no big releases except for Arjun Kapoor-Sonakshi Sinha's "Tevar" and Bipasha Basu's "Alone," which are set to hit the screens on 9 January and 16 January, respectively.
