Aamir Khan's "PK" has got off to a flying start at the box office in Bengaluru. Indeed, the Bollywood movie has beaten Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" in the Garden City.
As per traders, "PK" has earned about ₹6.30 crore in the Mysore circuit (Bengaluru+parts of Karnataka) and has beaten "Happy New Year", which had earned about ₹6.1 crore.
The Shah Rukh Khan starrer had released for Diwali in Bengaluru in 260 shows and ended the first weekend (3 days) with 750 shows. The total weekend collection from the entire Mysore circuit was reportedly ₹2.51 crore on the first day and earned ₹6.1 crore in the opening weekend. However, this record has been beaten by "PK", as per local traders.
Aamir Khan's "PK" had about 1000 shows in its first weekend in Bengaluru. On the release day, "PK" had 325+ shows and the response was shockingly low compared to his previous movie "Dhoom 3". On the release day, occupancy was above 50%. But on Saturday, the response got better.
On the second day, "PK" had more or less the same number of shows and the occupancy got better by reaching 75%.
The Aamir Khan starrer registered its best performance in its first weekend on Sunday by crossing 90% occupancy mark on Sunday. Following the good response from the audience on the first and second days, the distributor had increased the screen count to 350+ and cashed in on the good word-of-mouth.
Aamir Khan's previous movie had made about₹ 5.8 crore in its first weekend. While the collection of "Happy New Year" drastically came down in the weekdays, Aamir Khan's "PK" is likely to improve its performance in the coming days due to the positive reviews by audience and critics.
The other big advantage for the movie is that the flick is not facing any competition from any big Kannada movie. Besides, Tamil movie "Lingaa" starring Rajinikanth and Sonakshi Sinha was expected to take toll on "PK". But "Lingaa" has failed to live up to the expectations. Hence, it has helped the Bollywood movie to get additional screens.
