Aamir Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer "PK" ("Peekay") has continued its good performance even in its fifth week. The film minted ₹4.27 crore in its fifth week, thus taking its India business nett to ₹338.1 crore, according to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
"#PK Week 5: 4.27 cr. Grand total: ₹ 338.1 cr nett. India biz. ATBB," Adarsh tweeted.
"PK" is the first time to cross the ₹300-crore mark at the domestic box office. Earlier, it was Aamir's "Ghajini" and "3 Idiots" that started the ₹100 crore and ₹200 crore clubs.
"PK," which hit theatres on 19 December, took fantastic openings at the box office. Positive word of mouth helped the film sustain its business and collect huge collections at the box office. With no big releases around, "PK" had a fantastic run in December.
The release of films like Arjun Kapoor's "Tevar," Shankar's "I" and Bipasha Basu's "Alone" in January did not affect "PK" business and the film managed to hold well in theatres.
The Aamir-starrer has emerged as an all-time blockbuster not just in India, but also in overseas markets. The film has done exceptional business in the North American box office. It has raked in ₹64.66 crore in the US and Canada.
"#PK is an ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER in USA-Canada too. 5-week total: $ 10,532,007 [₹ 64.66 cr]. Awesome!," tweeted Adarsh.
Apart from the US and Canada, "PK" has done grand business in the UK, Australia and Pakistan and other key overseas markets. The film is reportedly the first Bollywood entertainer to cross the ₹600-crore mark at the worldwide box office.
Meanwhile, there are reports emerging that "PK" might release in China this year. An agreement to release the Chinese version of the film is expected to be signed in Beijing next week, reported the Press Trust of India.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, "PK" is a comedy drama with Aamir Khan playing the role of an alien and Anushka appearing as a television reporter. The film also has Sushant Singh Rajput, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Saurab Shukla in pivotal roles. Ranbir Kapoor makes a special appearance in the satirical comedy drama.
The film's cinematography is handled by CK Muraleedharan and editing by Rajkumar Hirani. The Aamir starrer is produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films.
