After having an extraordinary first week, Rajkumar Hirani's directorial film "PK" (Peekay) started the second week on a steady note.
The second Friday box office collection of the film is better than Aamir Khan's highest grossing film "Dhoom 3".
"Dhoom 3" had witnessed a major drop in its collection as it entered the second week. The box office income of Aamir's "PK" also dropped, but it's not as much as "Dhoom 3".
On second Friday, "Dhoom 3" minted ₹9.8 crore while "PK" minted ₹14.44 crore.
"PK", also starring Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput, has taken its eight day total to ₹197.53 crore. The comedy drama is all set to beat Hirani's "3 Idiots" and the second highest grosser of this year "Happy New Year". The film will also enter the ₹200 crore club by second Saturday.
If it maintains the same pace at the box, it might beat Salman Khan's "Kick" record and become the highest grossing film of 2014 by second weekend.
"PK" has been doing roaring business in India, as well as overseas market mainly due to strong reviews. And based on its first week collection, trade analysts have speculated that the film might earn ₹300 crore from domestic box offices.
"'PK' has done extremely well. In fact, it's the highest grosser in one week. Yesterday (Thursday) due to Christmas, the collection was outstanding. The film will certainly cross ₹300 crore easily," Rajesh Thadani from Multimedia Combines told IANS.
"The film is going steady at the box office and the film has not dropped even on weekdays," he added.
"The film is doing extremely well in Rajasthan. The shows have been going houseful and this film is the highest grosser of the year in a week. It's doing an outstanding business. It should cross ₹300 crore," Sunil Bansal, a distributor from Rajasthan, told IANS.
