Bollywood may not have tasted huge financial success in 2014, but for the four blockbusters "PK", "Happy New Year", "Kick" and "Bang Bang", which have made it to the list of top 10 all time highest grosser at the box office worldwide.
In 2013, Ranbir Kapoor's "Barfi", which collected ₹175 crore in its lifetime, was in the 20th place in the list of all-time highest grosser. In first and second quarters of 2014, Bollywood released many big-ticket movies such as "Jai Ho", "Holiday", "Ek Villain", "Humshakals", "Gunday", which were expected to beat this record, but they failed to make it to the list of top 20 movies.
In the third quarter, Salman Khan's "Kick", which was released in theatres on 25 July, collected ₹377 crore at the worldwide box office and landed the sixth spot. Released on 15 August, "Singham Returns" was expected to enter the list, but it could not even make it to top 20.
In the fourth quarter, three Bollywood movies such as "Bang Bang", "Happy New Year" and "PK" entered the list. Although Hrithik Roshan's "Bang Bang" and Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" made it to the list, their business was not up to the mark.
Released on 19 December, Aamir Khan's "PK" collected ₹453 crore at the worldwide box office in 11 days. The movie is still faring well at the ticket counters and is sure to beat the record of "Dhoom 3", which is topping the list with its life-time global collection ₹542 crore. Its lifetime business is expected to cross the mark of ₹600 crore in the global market.
