The worldwide box office collection of Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone-starrer "Piku" shot up more than 60 percent on Saturday, the second day of its screening.
Released in a large number of theaters across the globe on 8 May, "Piku" opened to an average response in the morning show on Friday. The film garnered positive response from both the audience as well as the critics and the word of mouth took its business upwards with the occupancy improving considerably in the later shows on the opening day itself.
"Piku" collected ₹5.32 crore net at the Indian box office on the first day. Besides revealing the figures of its Friday collection, Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh predicted that it would show a huge growth on Saturday.
"#Piku witnessed ample growth from evening shows onwards. Fri ₹ 5.32 cr. India biz. Expect further jump in biz today [Sat]," he tweeted yesterday.
As predicted, "Piku" witnessed a big leap on Saturday. As against the Friday collection of ₹ 5.32 crore, the movie collected ₹8.70 crore at the Indian box office on Saturday, taking the two-day domestic collection to ₹14.02 crore.
Taran Adarsh tweeted on Sunday: "#Piku biz witnesses MASSIVE growth on Day 2. Fri 5.32 cr, Sat 8.70 cr. Total: ₹14.02 cr. India biz. Winning hearts. Winning BO."
The trade analyst added, "Thrilled to see a gem like #Piku sprinting faster across the nation. Super-strong word of mouth is translating into super numbers at the BO."
"Piku" has shown huge growth not only in India, but also in international markets. In fact, the jump in its business in foreign markets was much bigger than in India. Taran Adarsh tweeted, "While #Piku witnessed EXCELLENT growth on Day 2 in India [final data to be updated soon], the biz more than doubled up in intl markets too."
Taran Adarsh also revealed the collection of "Piku" in the international market. He tweeted, "#Piku UK: Fri £ 24,412, Sat £ 52,386. Total: £ 76,798 [₹ 75.64 lacs]... AUS: Fri A$ 24,878, Sat A$ 53,252. Total: A$ 78,130 [₹ 39.46 lacs]. #Piku is extraordinary in USA-Canada [Fri was $ 210,800] and UAE-GCC [$ 440,000 est]. FANTASTIC!"
As per the early estimates, "Piku" has collected approximately ₹5.41 crore from its screening in the UK, USA, UAE and Australia in two days. The film is expected to cross the $1 million mark at the overseas box office on Sunday. Its two-day global total stands at ₹19.43 crore net.
