In photos: Neil Nitin Mukesh gets engaged to Rukmini Sahay on Dussehra

Neil Nitin Mukesh is officially taken! The Prem Ratan Dhan Payo actor got engaged to Mumbai-based Rukmini Sahay in a private ceremony on Tuesday evening.

The ceremony took place at a Juhu hotel in Mumbai on the day of Dussehra. The families and close friends of Neil and Rukmini attended the engagement, which is an arranged match. The couple will tie the knot next year.

Nitin Mukesh, father of Neil, issued a statement saying that the family is happy that Neil will finally settle down. Talking about his daughter-in-law, he said that Rukmini has already won the hearts of the Mukesh family with her "with her simplicity and upbringing."

"Neil is quite old school in his ways and is a firm believer in the traditional school of thought when it comes to the sacred institution of marriage. He left the decision of finding his soulmate in his parents' trusted hands and there couldn't have been a better match for him than Rukmini," Nitin said in a statement.

"She reflects the values and traditions that Neil has been raised with and compliments him in every way possible. The celebrations to the final countdown have already begun," he added.

Meanwhile, photos of the engagement ceremony have started doing the rounds on Instagram and Facebook. In the photos, Neil is seen wearing a black sherwani with maroon Nehru jacket. Rukimi looked beautiful in a pink and blue heavily embellished lehenga. Her hair bun with a simple gajra completed her traditional look.

A source in the know about the development told IANS that Neil and Rukmini were in courtship for a month.

The New York actor's engagement news comes days after he was embroiled in a minor controversy. The actor in a statement had said that his mother wants to date him in her next life. "I am the most romantic person probably in the world. I enjoy doing grey characters because in personal life I am totally opposite. My mom once told me that she wants to be born as my girlfriend in the next birth because she sees me how I am, I am extremely expressive and she loves me for that.Without love, I feel lost," Neil said, according to the Press Trust of India.
