Fresh after winning her maiden Olympics medal from her debut appearance in the quadrennial games, Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik, on Sunday, got engaged to boyfriend Satyawart Kadian at a private ceremony in Rohtak, Haryana. The marriage date, however, is yet to be revealed.
Satyawart, a wrestler himself, is also a medal winner at the Commonwealth Games. He won the silver in the 97 kg men's wrestling event at the Glasgow games in 2014. Sakshi, meanwhile, made India proud after clinching the bronze in the women's 58 kg freestyle wrestling event at Rio 2016, and became the first female wrestler ever from the country to win an Olympic medal.
The two met over wrestling events in the past and the relationship soon turned close. "He is very supportive and thinks of my dreams as his own," Sakshi was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India.
Satyawart is two years younger to Sakshi, who is 24. "They've known each other. The marriage has been planned at the initiative of both the families," Satyavan Pehelwan, father of Satyawart, told the Times of India.
This takes place just a week after Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, who won the bronze in Olympics 2012, got engaged to Sheetal, the daughter of Congress politician Jai Bhagwan Sharma, on October 9 in Sonipat. The duo will marry on January 16 2017.
