Rajinikanth's Petta is off to a good start at the US box office. The movie, which had premieres in over 228 locations, has been warmly welcomed by the Tamil and Telugu cine-goers, but it has failed to set any new record.
Petta is releasing in 500+ screens in two languages in the US. The Karthik Subbaraj's film had created a lot of buzz before its release. Cashing in on the hype, Thinkk Big, which has acquired the US theatrical rights of the movie, decided to have a wide premiere across the country which helped the flick to register a good start.
However, the early reports coming from the trade indicate that Petta has grossed $502k from the two versions. It means the Rajinikanth-starrer has shattered the record of Vijay's Sarkar, which had raked in $335,836 from 150 locations a few months ago.
It has to be noted that the complete report is yet to be out and there is a strong chance of Petta beating Rajini's recent record of Kaala ($512,489).
Petta is a mass-masala movie which is a tribute to Rajinikanth's some of the popular movies of the 90s. Karthik Subbaraj has churned out a perfect commercial entertainer which has been overwhelmingly received by the viewers.
With the movie getting fairly positive reviews, Petta is expected to do well in the coming days at the US box office.
The film bankrolled by Sun Pictures has Simran and Trisha Krishnan in the female leads. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vijay Sethupathi are the main villains in the flick.
